This is majorly for Intel-based Macs only as the M1 chipset-based Macs will probably come with Big Sur out of the box.

OS X El Capitan won't install on these two MacBook Pros (8,1). Support the show and get in the credits Wan.

Apple, at its virtual event on November 10, not just unveiled two new MacBooks and a Mac Mini with M1 processor, but also announced that much-awaited macOS Big Sur will be coming to all the eligible Mac devices within a week. This is majorly for Intel-based Macs only as the M1 chipset-based Macs will probably come with Big Sur out of the box. So, in case you are a MacBook, Mac Mini or an iMac user, you will too get this OS version. Here are all the eligible devices and steps on how to download and install the OS version.

  • Picked up a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 17'. It has the latest firmware on it. It came with El Capitan installed and I hadn't realised it was a slightly older model that I couldn't upgrade. I've tried everything imaginable to get this%#.@ thing back to El Capitan but nothing works.
  • I have a 15' MacBook Pro Core i7 A1286 (mid 2012) I'm unable to complete the installation of El Capitan. I only have the HD & RAM memory installed (no battery). Other Mac OS-X Versions are installing OK (even Windows). But, when I try to upgrade to El Capitan it never finishes the update. Also, it will not install via USB thumb drive.
  • Old Macbook Pro NOT COMPATIBLE with Photoshop, But CAN'T download OLDER VERSION. It's a 2011 macbook pro. The current version of photoshop is not compatible with my OS. My macbook runs OS X El Capitan, but the current version of photoshop requires Sierra or higher i believe. My macbook is literally unable to update any higher than el capitan.
